Recognition of Prior
Learning (RPL)
RPL may be awarded on a case by case basis by the NZRL for each
required module to be certified as a First Aid Officer or National
Trainer.
- An RPL application must be made to the NZRL prior to attending
the course, all modules must be completed or RPL awarded for
certification to be given.
- Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) Credit may be given for
relevant knowledge and skill gained through formal training or
experience i.e. Learning from work or life
experience.
Written support and evidence is required. Certain provisions
apply:
Module 1: Rugby league Fundamentals
Evidence of having attended a SportSmart workshop within
the previous two years:
Examples of evidence include: Current Fundamentals
License, Written support or registration from a recognised
deliverer of your attendance at a NZRL Fundamentals
LeagueSmart/SportSmart, NetballSmart workshop.
Registration on the NZRL database of LeagueSmart attendees.
Module 2: Sports First Aid and CPR:
The applicant can show evidence of completion of a first aid
certificate including CPR (unit standards 6400, 6401 and 6402) that
is within 1 year of expiry.
Module 3: Sports Strapping
Completion of a strapping course, run by a reputable
organisation within the past two years.
Examples include workshops run by a physiotherapist, USL or a
recognised tertiary training establishment. Evidence includes a
certificate of completion or a letter of attendance signed and
dated by the provider.
Or
If outside of the two year timeframe evidence of consistent
practice as a sports strapper following a sports strapping
course.
Evidence includes a letter from a sports club in support of your
service as a strapper and dates you have provided these services is
required.
Module 4: Anatomy and Physiology
Completion of anatomy and physiology papers at a tertiary
institute: (5368) Evidence includes copies of official transcripts
from a recognised tertiary educator.
Module 5: Training and Conditioning:
Completion of personal training and conditioning papers relevant
to sport. This includes papers completed at a tertiary institute.
(Unit Standard 5368) Evidence includes copies of official
transcripts from a recognised tertiary educator.
Where applying for certification as an FAO or Trainer completely
via RPL credit a $20 non refundable administration fee is payable
to the NZRL.
There is no charge for applying for modular RPL credit that does
not constitute the awarding of a certification.
