Jason Hemson

Jason has been involved in rugby league for over 35 years as a
player, coach, referee and administrator in Australia and New
Zealand. Originally from the league heartland of Newcastle in
Australia he moved to NZ in 1990 where he joined the Wainuiomata
club. His playing career saw him win premierships with Maitland in
Newcastle and Wainuiomata and Marist Northern in Wellington. He
represented the Central Coast in league and NSW in touch and played
for Wellington in the Lion Red Cup and Bartercard Cup. As a referee
Jason officiated at NPP level and the 2008 Wellington Grand Final.
He continues to referee in Wellington where he also hosts the
Atiawa FM College Sport Radio Show each Wednesday night.
Jason's commercial background has seen him work in sales/marketing
and business development in media, finance and event management.
Jason's focus is to rebuild rugby league in Wellington from the
ground up by concentrating on junior development.

Biographies

Timothy Gibson - Chairman
Tim is a Director of Tuia International and was the
inaugural Chief Executive of New Zealand Trade and Enterprise
(NZTE) which was recognised internationally as the "Best of the
Best" by the World Trade Promotion Forum in 2008. Tuia
International is a specialised firm providing trade development,
investment, tourism and economic development advice and services,
with a strong focus on indigenous issues.
Tim has had a successful career in senior roles in the New Zealand
Dairy Industry, in New Zealand, Asia and Europe. He is a member of
the Otago University School of Business Advisory Board, Chairman of
the Wellington Rugby League Board and a Director of FoodCap
International Ltd. Tim was formerly on the Board of Alliance Group
Ltd, a major New Zealand meat exporting co-operative. Tim has a
Bachelor of Law and Bachelor of Arts (Honours German) from
University of Otago, is married and has three children. His
interests include fitness and fishing.

Mark Feary
Mark is currently the International Relations Manager of
Statistics New Zealand and was previously the Private Secretary for
the Minister of Statistics. Mark has also held roles as
Senior Policy Analyst for the Ngai Tahu Development Corporation
(2000-2003) and also for the Ministry of Social Development
(1989-1999). Mark has a Masters of Indigenous Policy and
Development and a Diploma in Management Studies. He is the
Chair of the Kapiti Coast Rugby League Club, chairs the Wellington
Rugby League Chairs Committee and is a committee member on the
Wellington Rugby League Board. He has been involved in rugby
league for six years and during that time has been involved in
senior team management and administration of the game in Kapiti and
Wellington region. Mark is married with two children and has
tribal affiliations with Ngai Tahu and Ngati Waewae.

Jonathon Hanton
Jonathan is an Investigator for the Office of the Banking
Ombudsman. Jonathan was a member of the Wellington Rugby
League Judicial Committee from 2008 to 2010 and was Chair of the
Committee in 2009. Jonathan's interest is not-for-profit
governance, and he has assisted a number of Wellington clubs
to amend or rewrite their constitutions. Jonathan has a
Bachelor of Arts in Politics and Bachelor of Laws (Hons).

Eddie Jansen
Eddie has a Bachelor of Commerce degree from the University of
Canterbury and is a full member of the Institute of Chartered
Accountants of New Zealand. From 2006 till present Eddie is
an Associate Principal for WHK Sherwin Chan & Walshe Chartered
Accountants and was an Agency Contractor for Procurement and
Contracts (Curriculum, Teaching & Learning) for the Ministry of
Education prior to his current role. He was the Chief
Executive of Wellington Racing Club (2002-2005) where his complete
responsibility was for all aspects of the business, reporting to
the President and the Board. Eddie has completed additional
studies offered by ICANZ in Franchising, Raising equity and finance
and Business valuation. He has great interest in the horse
racing industry as well as golf, rugby league and sports

Jon Royal
Jon is the current Chief Executive Officer for Healthcare
Aotearoa, a national network of community health and social service
providers. Previously Jon worked for the Department of Corrections
as National Manager Maori Services. He has significant experience
in management roles, particularly in the public sector, but has
also run his own consultancy business for a number of years. At 57
and with pressure from his wife, Jon has finally hung up his boots
after a playing career spanning many seasons in the Waikato and
Wellington regions - the only recognition of this are the numerous
GP and physio visit receipts, scars and the odd limp which is
considerably noticeable on cold mornings. Until recently Jon
had been Chair of the University Hunters RLC, the only current
Wellington City premier side. Jon has a particular passion for
marketing and will focus on contributing to the securing of further
sponsorship deals for WRL.

Stella Teariki
Stella is presently a union organiser with the NZ Public
Services Association and a co-convenor for the NZ Council of Trade
Unions Komiti Pasefika and was previously a union organiser for the
National Distribution Union based in Auckland for 17
years. She is the Chair and Junior Convenor for St
George Rugby League Club based in Porirua. Stella became more
involved in rugby league upon moving to Wellington in 2006 and has
been with the St George club since and was seconded to the
Wellington Rugby League Zonal Board in 2010 to bring a grass roots
perspective to the board. She has one child who is now 13 and
he has been playing rugby league since the age of 5. Stella
is passionate about rugby league and all the great opportunities
associated with the game for players, their families, and the
communities they live in.
