Northern Hearts Are Set On League
Tuesday, 10 August 2010
On Sunday 8 July, representative hopefuls from the Northern Zone
took to the field in Kaikohe to trial for the upcoming
representative season.
Prospects for the 15s and 17s teams spent the full day in an
NZRL Hearts Camp receiving fitness testing, a drug education
seminar before trialling, while the representative coaches and
managers were joined by Premier coaches from throughout the
Northern zone in an advanced coaching workshop facilitated by Dan
Floyd and Tony Kemp from NZRL.
The local referees also took the chance to receive some
specialist training from NZRL National Referees Coordinator Ian
Mackintosh.
Northern Zone General Manager Rob Wakelin commented "We had a
great turnout particularly from the Premier grade players who have
shown their support for the Zone concept and are keen to have the
opportunity to once again represent Northland on a national
platform".
"The support shown by the Kaikohe community was great for our
young players", said Wakelin. "We greatly appreciate the
support shown by Far North District Council and we look forward to
bringing our representative teams here to play Counties-Manukau on
Sunday 5 September."
Premier Coach Revell Neal was enthusiastic about the trial form
shown "It is obvious the players are passionate about representing
Northland and we have plenty of talent to work with, I look forward
to the competition".
The next Hearts Camp is in Auckland on 16 August, 2010. For

Calendar for details.
