Shane runs the sideline during Four Nations 2011

NZRL is pleased to announce that leading Match Official Shane Rehm has been awarded another Prime Ministers Scholarship from Sport NZ (formerly SPARC).

The scholarship will be used to help Shane travel to Australia throughout 2012 to undertake Referee and Touch Judge appointments in the NSW Cup, Toyota Cup and NRL competitions. Whilst there, Shane will also train with the NRL Referees Squad and participate in video reviews, debriefs and team training sessions.

After a bout of illness midway through 2011, Shane finished the season strongly, refereeing the National Competition Premier Final, along with the Cook Islands vs Pacific Tri-Series Tournament Team in Rarotonga.

In October and November, Shane travelled to the United Kingdom to officiate in the Four Nations, where his performances saw him appointed as a Touch Judge in the Australia vs England final at Elland Road.

Shane said: "It's very exciting to be receiving the Prime Minister's scholarship for a second year and have the opportunity for further trips to Sydney. These trips will provide important training and coaching to help advance my refereeing to the next level."

NZRL Referees Manager, Marc Harris, said: "This scholarship is great news for Shane's development. Hopefully, with some strong performances in training and in matches, he can push his claim for a fulltime contract with the NRL Referees Squad."
