The first step is to attend the beginner course appropriate to the age group you are coaching (either Mini and Mods, Youth (13s to 18s) or Seniors (19s and above). For more information regarding these courses see below.

The Mini-Mod Coaches pathway in 2012 will be the same as 2011. Currently the only course available is the Beginner Mini-Mod Course. Further courses will be introduced in 2013.

Beginner Mini Mod Course

Duration:

Approximately 2.5 hours (including fundamentals)

Cost:

Free of charge

Resources:

Mini Mod rule book, Mini Mod coaches resource, whistle + lanyard, fluro vest, Fundamentals DVD and booklet

Nil

What is covered:

The Beginner Mini Mod Course is designed to cater for anyone interested in coaching Mini-Mod footy (under 6's - under 12's) and covers Mini-Mod Fundamentals and a section on designing training games and drills for Mini-Mod players including a practical segment.

2012 will see the introduction of the new "Youth" Coaches pathway designed specifically for coaches of teams from under 13s to under 18s. The first step in the pathway is the "Beginner Youth Course", coaches that have completed this course will then be able to progress to the current "International Games course" with the final step in the pathway for 2012 being the current Senior Club Coach Course.

Beginner Youth Course

Approximately 3.5 hours (including fundamentals)

What is covered:

The Beginner Youth Course is designed to cater for anyone interested in coaching Youth grades (under 13's - under 18's) and covers the Fundamentals, a practical segment and a section on Understanding Youth players and how this affects the way you should coach them.

Beginner Senior Course

Duration:

Approximately 4.5 hours (including fundamentals)

What is covered:

The Beginner Senior Course is designed to cater for anyone coaching Senior grades (under 19s and above) and covers the Fundamentals, a practical segment, an introduction to attack and defence  and a section on Understanding Senior players and how this affects the way you should coach them.

International Games Course

Duration:

Approximately 8.5 hours (including fundamentals)

Cost:

$50

Resources:

Coaches Recorder, Coaching Rugby League Manual, Teaching Rugby League Skills, Fundamentals DVD and booklet

Pre requisites:

Coaches must hold either a "Beginner Youth Coach" or "Beginner Senior Coach" Certificate

Post course work:

Nil

What is covered:

The International Games course is the second step in the pathway for coaches coaching International grades (under 13s and above). Presentations include the role of the coach, attack and defence, skills and planning training sessions.

Senior Club Coach Course

Duration:

Three Full days

Cost:

$150

Resources:

Coaches Recorder, International Rule book, Assessment book, Fundamentals DVD and booklet, handouts from individual presenters

Pre requisites:

To attend this course you must have held your Club Coach / International Games Certificate for 2 years.  Recognition of prior learning will be considered on a case by case basis and may result in some coaches being accepted earlier.

Post course work:

To be successful you will need to go through a competency based assessment during the following season and complete course assignments.

What is covered:

This course is designed for but not restricted to coaches predominantly working with representative teams or Senior Club teams. Topics covered include Psychological approaches to peak performance, Conditioning, Advanced skills, attack and defence, coaching methods, legal responsibilities, Nutrition and program planning.
